A New Space for Community Health Practitioners

On Wednesday 4th March at 10am, we’re launching something different. The Neighbourhood Health Academy isn’t just another platform or training program. It’s a community built by and for the people doing the real work of neighbourhood health.

Visit us at NeighbourhoodHealthAcademy.org a space where passion meets practice, where the experts who serve communities can put people first. Not process.

Because that’s what neighbourhood health should be about. People first. Always.

What You’ll Find in Our Community

Core Discussion Areas

The Academy focuses on the challenges you face every day:

  • Funding – Navigate the complex landscape of community health financing
  • Service Design & Implementation – Build services that actually work for your community
  • Measurement and Evaluation – Understand what success looks like at neighbourhood level
  • Partnership and Collaboration – Bridge the gaps between organisations
  • Reducing Health Inequalities – Address the real disparities in your communities

Live Learning and Problem-Solving

Every fortnight, we host live sessions where theory meets practice. These aren’t lectures – they’re conversations about how to make things work in the messy reality of community health.

We also run workshops where you bring your own problems. Your challenges. Your community’s needs. Because this academy is shaped by practitioners, for practitioners.

Why Neighbourhood Health Isn’t Simple

Neighbourhood health sounds simple to do. But isn’t.

At community level, you don’t deal with tidy categories or clean pathways. You work with the full diversity of humanity:

  • Different cultures
  • Different histories
  • Different experiences and expectations
  • Often trauma

All layered on top of patients with vastly different needs.

The Challenge of Constant Change

None of these factors stay fixed. They’re changing all the time.

This means fixed processes, ‘best practices’, and perfect case studies often fail. How can you ‘get it right first time’ when you don’t know what right is? When long-term conditions happen continuously?

Seeing the System’s Broken Parts

At neighbourhood level, you see everything:

  • The broken pathways and duplicated assessments
  • The person who’s told their story five times
  • The tensions between organisations
  • The uncertainty about who’s responsible
  • The gaps where someone is sent home, only to return later, sicker and more complex

Yet much of the system still operates as if health can be organised through rigid, fixed structures and processes.

Building a Learning Community for Real Change

Community health requires constant learning. If it becomes about rigid processes, we become distant and disconnected from the people we serve.

If the people and communities we work with are constantly changing, so must we.

The science of neighbourhood health must surely be about working together to get our practice to fit the needs of our community.

That’s what the Neighbourhood Health Academy is for.

What Makes Us Different

We’re independent, which allows us to learn widely. We learn from:

  • The NHS
  • The voluntary, community and social enterprise sector
  • Technology innovators
  • People experimenting on the ground

We help people build bridges across the system – improving understanding of how to work with, engage and build relationships with different participants across the entire health ecosystem.

Join a Space for Connection and Honest Conversation

The Neighbourhood Health Academy is:

  • A space for connection and shared learning
  • A place for honest conversation about what works and what doesn’t
  • Where practitioners can reflect on real work
  • Where you can navigate tensions and continually improve

We’re bringing people together with heart and soul, learning from each other to put into practice the work of improving the health of our communities.

Applications Are Open – Join Us

If this feels like the kind of space you’ve been looking for, we’d love you to join us.

The community goes live Wednesday 4th March at 10am.

Because neighbourhood health needs practitioners who care about people, not just processes. And those practitioners need a space to connect, learn, and grow together.

That space is here.
